After working for Alltel Corp. for 10 years, Richard Hamilton decided to start a business that would benefit both the customer and the environment.
He started Eco Services of Arkansas Inc. and brought the Filta Environmental Kitchen Solutions franchise into Pulaski and Saline counties.
“I was looking for something to do on my own,” Hamilton said. “This seemed like it was something nobody else was doing around here.”
The Filta Environmental Kitchen Solutions franchise offers FiltaFry and FiltaCool services.
FiltaFry is a cooking oil filtration and fryer management service that lengthens the life of cooking oil. This service is typically used in restaurants, school cafeterias, hospitals and other businesses with kitchens.
Eco Services of Arkansas Inc. provides the customer with a free demonstration of this service before purchase.
“If a customer wants to see the service, we offer a free trial,” Hamilton said. “We come in and filter their grease and clean the fryer for them and then go from there. It takes about an hour to answer their questions and filter and clean the fryer. If they like the service and think it could benefit them, we will find a time that works for my schedule and theirs.”
Hamilton says that he usually visits his customers once or twice a week to filter their oil.
Hamilton provides full service and filtration-only service. When a customer selects filtration-only service, Hamilton is not responsible for changing the grease and only filters it.
By using FiltaFry, Hamilton said, businesses can reduce the number of accidents and insurance claims and save money.
“I’m saving them money, labor and liability,” Hamilton said. “It’s an interesting concept to me because I could save people money, and in this economy everyone is looking to save a buck or two.”
The FiltaCool service controls the humidity for cold storage environments. It can be used in a variety of businesses that have freezers.
The FiltaCool is a tiny box that can be placed on a shelf in the freezer or attached to the ceiling. The FiltaCool box has a packet of minerals inside of it that controls the moisture levels inside the refrigeration unit. The box lasts for up to three months before requiring replacement.
Hamilton said that FiltaCool could also save customers money by reducing the cost of energy and extending food life.
Since starting nearly a year ago, Hamilton has already accumulated 35 to 40 customers. Currently, he is the only employee at Eco Services of Arkansas, but because of the company’s success, Hamilton said, he hopes to add to his team.
